On August 29th, 2009, Platte County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Johnson died in a motor vehicle accident on Highway 91 while responding to a call for service.  

     Deputy Johnson began his law enforcement career at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in 1996.  He then went to the Correction Corporation of America in Florence, Arizona.  He joined the Walthill Police Department in northeastern Nebraska in 2001 and later the West Point Police Department in 2002. Deputy Johnson was hired by the Platte County Sheriff's Department in 2006.  

     Deputy Johnson received his law enforcement certification from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in 2003.  He was a certified firearms instructor and TASER instructor.  

     Deputy Johnson was the 2006 Platte County Sheriff's Department Deputy of the Year.
